Dr. Andrew Adams is the Assistant Professor of Piano at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. He earned the Bachelor of Music in Piano from the Kansas City Conservatory of Music and the Master of Music in Vocal Coaching and Accompanying from the University of Illinois. In April 2005, he completed his Doctorate in Piano Performance at the University of Colorado. For six summers (1996-2001) he was a vocal coach at the Utah Festival Opera Company in Logan, Utah. Dr. Adams served as Vocal Coach and Director of Collaborative Piano at Iowa State University from 2003 to 2006. He serves on the editorial board of, has published numerous articles in, and serves as the Editor of the Online Index for The Journal of Singing, the official publication of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He has published articles and reviews in Piano Professional (England), The American Music Teacher, The Journal of the International Alliance for Women in Music, and the North Carolina Music Educator. Co-authored with Dr. Bradley Martin, his first book is entitled Hanon Restored: Charles-Louis Hanon’s Five-finger Exercises Restored to His Original Design (Stipes Publishing). A second book, The Rachmaninoff Common-tone Series: A Guide for Keyboard Performers, is under review by Hal Leonard in New York. He lectured on Neupert’s life and works in Copenhagen at the 2011 International Research Conference of the International Edvard Grieg Society. An active accompanist and chamber musician, he has accompanied recitals throughout the United States and in Russia.
