The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Scholarship is a two-year project to fund Engineering (Electric Power or Mechanical) and Electrical Engineering students at Western Carolina University, with preference given to Electrical Power majors.

About the Scholarship

This is an undergraduate research opportunity that provides participants with a $5,000 scholarship per semester. Scholarships are renewable each semester if academic milestones are met and recipients must also agree to work in nuclear-related employment for 6 months for every completed or partial year of scholarship awarded.

Eligibility 

Applicants must be U.S. citizen and permanent U.S. residents and a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a WCU degree in Engineering (Electric Power or Mechanical) or Electrical Engineering.

Application Requirements

Completed applications are due on Friday, November 17th, 2023

  1. Completed application form
  2. Include current resume
  3. Results of completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  4. Official transcript (College or Early College), attached as a PDF to application.
  5. Three letters of recommendation from your teachers/ instructors/employers emailed by recommender to Dr. Bora Karayaka at hbkarayaka@wcu.edu
  6. Personal statement explaining future education and career plans, as well as the reason for majoring in Engineering (Electric Power or Mechanical) or Electrical Engineering
