Technology of Instructional Engineering Systems (TIES)

The Technology of Instructional Engineering Systems (TIES) office is the internal technical support unit within the College of Engineering and Technology. This office works in collaboration with Central IT. The primary focus of the "TIES" Office is to support the software and computer technology utilized within the college. College of Engineering students and faculty may visit the TIES office during office hours for specialized technology support or submit a ticket at engr.wcu.edu/help. Refer to the list below for details on the support available in the TIES office.

Student Support

 

We recommend the following system configuration:

  • Windows 11 Operating System
  • At least 32GB RAM
  • At least a 15" screen
  • An advanced graphics card to handle 3D graphics processing (Nvidia or AMD)
  • Recommended Computer: Dell Precision, Inspiron or Dell Pro Max Series
    Note: Dell Hardware warranty can be serviced on campus!

 Dell offers a student discount by visiting www.dell.com/wcu and clicking "Get Your Discount," then create a Dell account to verify student status. Once student status has been verified, laptops can be custom-designed at www.dell.com to receive a student discount. 

Some of the software that the College of Engineering utilizes can be downloaded and installed free on personal computers. This software can be accessed within the college's Canvas course. Current students can access the course by logging into Canvas

Many of our engineering applications are available via our Virtual environment. Just visit vcat.wcu.edu and download the client. After logging in, click on "Engineering 3.0".
