Academic accreditation is a voluntary process undertaken by colleges and universities to ensure that a program or institution meets established quality standards for post-secondary education. Continued accreditation requires a periodic review by private, non-governmental organizations seeking to uphold and promote the quality of institutions and their academic programs.
