Heidi B. Von Dohlen is Assistant Professor and Program Director for the North Carolina School Executive Leadership Programs: Masters of School Administration (MSA) and Post Masters Certificate (PMC). She holds a Bachelors in Spanish from Lenoir Rhyne University, a Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from State University of New York, New Paltz; and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Western Carolina University.
Dr. Von Dohlen has served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, and county office administrator. For 28 years, Dr. Von Dohlen has lived and taught Kindergarten through Doctoral students in New York, Spain, Virginia, Japan, California, and North Carolina. Throughout Dr. Von Dohlen’s career, she has advocated for marginalized students, parents, and community members. A strong focus of her work has involved helping immigrant students and families through the acculturation process and in navigating U.S. school systems. Similarly, her work has involved educating American-born students to accept and embrace diversity in their schools and communities.
Dr. Von Dohlen is a strong advocate for distributed leadership and teacher leadership in public schools. Leadership, regardless of formal position, should be utilized at all levels within schools and school districts.
