Laura Thompson receives award

Laura Thompson, a current master's in education student at WCU, received the North Carolina Association for the Gifted & Talented (NCAGT) Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted Award. Thompson is an AIG teacher at Jacksonville Commons Elementary, within Onslow County School District in North Carolina. She was the only elementary teacher in the state chosen to receive the award for this school year. In addition to recieving the award, Thompson was also selected to present at this years NCAGT confernece.  Michael Elder, the Director of Academic Innovation and Gifted Services for Onslow County, shared these sentiments:

This is a very prestigious and sought-after award. Teachers from several grades, her administrator, and a student all wrote letters of support for Laura. It was great news to receive that Laura was the NCAGT selection for 2021! In this challenging time, it is good to have things to celebrate and even better to have people to celebrate.
