John Walsh

Prof John Walsh in TV Studio

In WCU's Department of Communication, television production begins and ends with the student. Broadcast majors shoot video on location and in the professionally-equipped CAT TV studio. Students produce documentary shorts with journalism and public relations majors, and shoot multi-camera coverage of athletics events and fine arts performance. Majoring in communications offers freedom to explore broadcast production while completing a well-rounded, liberal arts education.

Equally at home in small crew documentary and large crew feature production, John freelanced in three top-ten markets including Atlanta, Los Angeles and Vancouver. At Turner/Time Warner John served as Director of Photography shooting for HBO, TNT, TBS, TCM, and CNN. As a member of IATSE 669 in Vancouver, he supported camera crews on episodic television shows. Based on an inspirational experience at the University of Southern California School of Cinema and Television, John has remained involved with education throughout his career. His research interests include integrating service learning and community engagement into the curriculum, serving community partners through video production, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
