Alumni and friends interested in obtaining information about how to support Western Carolina University through a planned gift have a new resource to assist them.

The new coaching balcony for video operations in the expanded E.J. Whitmire Stadium at Western Carolina University will be named in memory of the late Philip Preston Sr.

The Mountain Heritage Center invites you to an upcoming event at Innovation Station at 40 Depot St. in Dillsboro. The event will take place on Thursday, August 6, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm and is free and open to the public.

Just a few years ago, Rustin Muse was working the Mountain Heritage Day 5K race. Alongside his classmates in his sport management class, Muse helped develop the track, get people interested and schedule police officers for the event.

This August, Brandi Hinnant-Crawford will join the College of Education and Allied Professions faculty as the John and Deborah Bardo Distinguished Professor of Educational Leadership. Her return is a homecoming that continues a nearly decade-long tenure as a Catamount and more than 12-year career as a researcher and professor.

Western Carolina University alumni and friends from across North Carolina and the Atlanta area gave a warm Catamount welcome to approximately 100 incoming first-year students during several receptions in July.

Following a banner year for revenue generation and fundraising for the athletics program at Western Carolina University in 2025-2026 with all-time highs in ticket sales, donations and booster organization membership, the Catamount Club is announcing benefits package updates, including a new top tier called “The Royal Banner” level.

Leaders at Western Carolina University certainly knew that interest from prospective students was on the rise, but this fall’s enrollment is shaping up to be historic.

Western Carolina University has been awarded a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration to support infrastructure improvements at the WCU-Cullowhee Dam, a project aimed at providing resiliency for critical public water systems and strengthening the region's outdoor recreational economy.
