Western Carolina University's Board of Trustees elected Becky Brown as chair during a special called meeting on Thursday, July 9. Brown succeeds Casey Cooper, who completed his term as chair and will continue serving on the board through June 30, 2029.

Western Carolina University Chancellor Kelli R. Brown has been named the recipient of the 2026 Jackson County Distinguished Citizen Award, presented by Scouting America’s Daniel Boone Council in recognition of her outstanding leadership, service, and commitment to the community.
