RN to BSN Application Information

Step 1: Prior transcript Evaluation

The Transcript Evaluation is to help confirm that all prerequisites will be satisfied before the program begins.
You may apply without the unofficial transcript review, but it is advised to use the evaluation to help you complete the application.
If the request is sent in 2 months or less before the application deadline you may not have it back in time for application use.

All prerequisites must be completed before starting the program, but may be in progress at the time of application.

Deadlines to apply to the RN to BSN Program and WCU are:

  • September 10 for the Spring semester
  • March 10 for the Fall semester

Step 2: Complete the Distance Learning WCU University Application

Complete the WCU University Application. - the Deadline for Spring 2019 was 9/10/18.

  • Complete as either a "Transfer from Another College" or "Former WCU Student".
  • Use your home email address.
  • Pay your application fee.
  • Send
    • All official transcripts,
    • any official CLEP/DANTES/Etc.test results, and
    • any other requested information to:

Check your MyWCU account account for anything that may still be needed to complete your application.

Step 2 and 3 are dual-applications and you do not have to hear back from WCU before completing Step 3.

You must be accepted by WCU as well as the School of Nursing for possible acceptance into the program.

  • Application deadline for Fall (August start) admission is March 10.
  • Application deadline for Spring (January start) admission is September 10.

Step 3: Complete the RN to BSN Program Application

The application deadline for spring 2019 was 9/10/18

  • Open as a PDF in Adobe to complete
  • Use your home email address
  • Send all together:
    • All transcripts (does not have to be official),
    • your completed program application,
    • any CLEP/DANTES/Etc. test results,
    • any other requested information,
    • and resume to:

Both step 2 and step 3 must be completed fully by the application deadline to be considered an applicant.

Readmission into the RN to BSN Program

For anyone looking to be readmitted into the RN to BSN Program please fully complete Step 2 above, and the
RN to BSN Application for Readmission.

Do Not Fax

  • We will not have any paperwork on you if you have been out of the RN to BSN program for at least 2 years.
  • Please include your prior student ID number and the last active semester you had in the RN to BSN program.
  • Application deadline for Summer (May Start) or Fall (August start) is March 10.
  • Application deadline for Spring (January start) admission is September 10.

After applying

You will receive an email from the Educational Outreach Office and another email from the Admissions Office confirming you submitted your online WCU application. These will contain further information and instructions.

You will then receive a physical university distance education admissions letter or a letter requesting further information regarding your application.

Continue to monitor you personal email and your MyWCU account.

A separate email from the School of Nursing will be sent stating your RN to BSN Application was received generally within two weeks submission to our office. Follow-up emails will then be sent as applications are processed.

RN to BSN letters of acceptance or denial are expected to be emailed out from the SON:

  • In April or May (possibly June) for fall applicants depending on the number of applications received.
  • In October or November (possibly December) for spring applicants depending on the number of applications received.
  • If accepted by the School of Nursing you must also be accepted by the University within two weeks of being offered a seat by the program.

  • List any prerequisites in progress on your application:
    • For the Fall application, list any spring and/or summer courses
    • For the Spring application, list any summer and/or fall courses
  • Yes, that is two sets of transcripts:
    • All Official transcripts are to be sent to the Admissions Office to go with the University Online Application (Step 2).
    • Another is sent to the School of Nursing to go with the Program Application (Step 3), but those do not have to be official.
  • Your transcripts should include a clearly visible college name, all classes with grades/hours, GPA and any degrees earned.
  • After the application deadline, applicants are ranked and accepted based on the following criteria: number of prerequisites in progress to be completed at the time of application, NCLEX passed, full completion of applications, acceptance into the university, and cumulative GPA.
  • All prerequisites must be completed before starting the program.

  • Please note that acceptance to the University does not guarantee admission to the RN to BSN Program.
  • You must be admitted to the University to possibly qualify for the RN To BSN Program.
  • An official transcript is issued from the issuing institution in a sealed envelope. It must bear an institutional validation (such as seal, logo, and letterhead), date, and appropriate signature. It must also arrive in hard copy, in a sealed envelope from the institution. WCU's Admissions Office may not accept an electronic transcript.
  • Any  transcripts received by the School of Nursing will not be forwarded to other departments.
