Student Resources

Below are items that WCU Nursing students will find beneficial throughout their journey as a Catamount Nurse.

The Traditional and Accelerated BSN programs at WCU require completion of several prerequisites as well as the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). This test can be taken once every 30 days and can be scheduled through the WCU Testing CenterWCU students qualify to receive 50% off study materials through Mometrix with the code WCU-50-OFF.

Traditional BSN students must also complete the ACT. If students did not take, or wish to retake, the ACT a residual ACT is offered by the WCU Testing Center. Students should be aware this residual ACT cannot be reported to any other higher education institutions.

The Testing Center's website provides the most up-to-date information regarding the fees associated with these assessments.

Students wishing to take the TEAS exam off-campus are encouraged to contact their local university, community college or testing center (i.e., Prometric or Sylvan). Students may also arrange to take the exam through PSI Exams Online. Exams arranged through PSI can typically be scheduled and proctored through a local testing center.  Scores are available within 72 hours after completing the exam. If registering with PSI, please schedule your test date at least 3 days in advance of the application deadline. For more information visit PSI's website.

The North Carolina Library System makes Learning Express Library and Prepstep Academic available through its constituent libraries; it has many resources including TEAS preparation materials (click on "career preparation", then select "prepare for nursing exams" to see the resources). That means folks at WCU and other UNC System institutions, public North Carolina community colleges, and well, anyone with a North Carolina public library card can access this resource for free through the North Carolina Library System’s subscription to the resource.

Please note that use of this tool requires first registering for a free individual account and logging in with that account to view resources. A < 10 minute video taking folks through navigating the tool can be accessed at Brief how-to video: Crash Course on LearningExpress Library (from nclive TV)

All students in programs with a clinical or precepted learning experience are required to create an account with Castlebranch to maintain their documentation.
