Areas of Research Interest: Transition to Practice, Incorporating Evidence Based Research, Community/Mental Health Nursing

Dr. Woody started her career at Western Carolina University in 2017 as an adjunct clinical instructor within the Traditional and the Accelerated BSN Program as well as functioning as the Interim Grant Director for the BSN Practicums in Population Health Grant.

Prior to coming to WCU, Dr. Woody has served as the Director of Nursing for the Balsam Center’s Adult Inpatient Unit and Behavioral Health Urgent Care. She has functioned in administrative roles as the Director of Inpatient Nursing at Swain Community Hospital and as the Nurse Manager of the Women’s Care Unit at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Dr. Woody has also held positions within Nursing Education as an instructor for the Region A Nursing Consortium and as the Clinical Educator for Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital.

Dr. Woody received a Masters of Science in Nursing Administration and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2013. She has recently graduated from Western Carolina University in 2018 with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. For Dr. Woody’s research project, she created a Nurse Residency Program for newly licensed registered nurses and measured the effects the program had in instilling feelings of preparedness for clinical practice within a rural setting.

Dr. Woody is a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association as well as the American Nurses Association. She enjoys reading and camping with her family. Dr. Woody currently lives in Waynesville, NC with her husband and two children.
