North Carolina’s Small Business and Technology Development Center operates offices
in Asheville and Cullowhee in partnership with Western Carolina University. The SBTDC
is the business and technology extension service of the University of North Carolina
system. It operates 10 regional service centers offering six specialty programs for
small businesses including international business development, market research, access
to private equity, strategic growth services, technology development, and selling
to the government.
Western Carolina staffs the Asheville and Cullowhee offices with a full-time director,
three business counselors and a specialist for government procurement. The team hosts
regular workshops on small business development and sales strategies.
