Graduate Certificate in Project Management

The Project Management Certificate (PMC) program is of particular interest to workplace professionals or military personnel who are looking for certification rather than a degree due, in part, to the convenient delivery of courses over an eight-week period. A graduate certificate in Project Management is awarded to students who successfully complete the following four three-credit courses:

  • PMC 610: "Project Planning and Estimating"
  • PMC 620: "Project Schedule, Risk and Contracts"
  • PMC 630: "Project Change Management"
  • PMC 640: "Managing Enterprise Projects"

Minimum Admission Requirements

An undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited instruction of higher education, with a 3.0 average on the last 60 hours.

PMC 610: "Project Planning and Estimating" (3 credits)

Students will develop an understanding of the following key concepts at the completion of this course:

  • What is a project?
  • Project management discipline and its importance for organizations
  • Interpretation of the client objectives
  • Role of historical data in planning the project
  • Develop a methodical estimate of the project resources
  • Calculate a total cost for the project

PMC 620: "Project Schedule, Risk and Contracts" (3 credits)

Students will develop an understanding of the following key concepts at the completion of this course:

  • Precedence table
  • Network diagram
  • Floats and critical path
  • Risk response strategy
  • Quantification of the occurrence and impact of risks
  • Significance of different types of contracts
  • Profit margin and bidding strategy

PMC 630: "Project Change Management" (3 credits)

Students will develop an understanding of the following key concepts at the completion of this course:

  • Monitoring plan
  • Workaround plan for an emerging project variance
  • Budget modification
  • Causes of project change
  • Importance of a logical baseline
  • Stakeholder impact
  • Formalized project management processes
  • Distinction between reporting and communicating
  • Distinction between intellectual diversity and toxic conflict

PMC 640: "Managing Enterprise Projects" (3 credits)

Students will develop an understanding of the following key concepts at the completion of this course:

  • Prioritization of internally-funded projects
  • Evaluation of potential contractor
  • Project Management Office
  • Project-friendly enterprise culture
  • The concept of project management maturity
  • Organizational maturity assessment
