Are you interested in the science, technology, engineering, or math fields? Are you planning to be an incoming freshman and live on-campus, or will be a transfer student? Are you interested in being part of a community that participates in a research experience? If so, then L.E.A.R.N.™ at WCU invites you to apply to our learning community for the 2018-2019 academic year. Applications are available online on our Apply page.


A program that invites science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students to become a part of a supportive living-learning community.

L.E.A.R.N.™ at WCU has program offerings for two select groups of incoming students. Our F-L.E.A.R.N. program invites entering freshmen, planning to live on-campus, and interested in participating in a research apprenticeship experience in their freshmen year. Our T-L.E.A.R.N. program invites transferring students from other state and community colleges, and who are looking to expand their undergraduate research experience. L.E.A.R.N. is an undergraduate research program designed for non-honors college students. Both F-L.E.A.R.N. and T-L.E.A.R.N. students will join WCU majoring in the following STEM disciplines:


  • Science (Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences & Natural Resources, and Physics)
  • Technology (Engineering Technology)
  • Engineering
  • Math and Computer Science
  • LEARN from faculty and peers in your academic and housing community
  • Live in and join an ENVIRONMENT that supports your ACADEMIC success
  • Gain hands-on RESEARCH experience
  • Receive a SCHOLARSHIP
  • Build a CAREER and a NETWORK of friends and colleagues
