Registrar's Office COVID-19 Resources

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, WCU has made modifications to some policies for the Spring 2020, Summer 2020, Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. The information listed below is available to provide more information to students regarding these changes. As always, the Registrar's Office encourages students to speak with their advisors before making any academic or coursework related decisions.

UNC Regulation 400.1.5 [R] has directed institutions not to count retakes attempted during the 2020 Spring semester, the Fall 2020 semester, or 2021 Spring semester against any grade replacement caps.  WCU does not limit the number of times a student can repeat a course but does cap the number of grades that can be replaced. Grade replacements & grade exclusions are processed manually at the end of each term. Retakes for grade improvement attempted during the 2020 Spring semester, the 2020 Summer semester, the Fall 2020 Semester, or 2021 Spring semester will not count toward the sixteen-hour cap.

UNC Regulation 400.1.5 [R] has directed institutions not to count Ws earned during the 2020 Spring semester, the Fall 2020 semester, or 2021 Spring semester toward any course withdrawal limits. Ws earned during the 2020 Spring semester, the 2020 Summer semester, the Fall 2020 semester, or 2021 Spring semester will not count toward the course withdrawal limit.

If approved for a University Withdrawal for extenuating circumstance, academic standing from the last term of enrollment, regardless of cumulative GPA or cumulative completion rate, will be carried forward to the withdrawal term.

By Example: If you were in good standing at the end of the fall semester and withdrew from the spring semester for extenuating circumstances your academic standing at the end of spring would set to good standing.

Academic standing and financial aid eligibility in future terms are impacted when semester or cumulative course completion rates drop below 67%. Academic standing in future terms will be based on GPA and completion rates as published in the university catalog. Students are encouraged to work with their advisors to understand the impact of any W on their cumulative course completion rate. Students should contact Financial Aid at finaid@wcu.edu or 828.227.7290 to discuss the potential impact withdrawing has on their financial aid.

The Registrar's Office is committed to providing support to students, faculty and staff during the Spring 2020 and Fall 2020 semesters. The links listed below are available to assist you during this time. The Registrar's Office encourages students to reach out to instructors and advisors before making any decisions about Spring 2020 or Fall 2020 coursework.
