Honors Community

Honors students outside

As a member of Western Carolina’s Brinson Honors College, you will live and learn alongside other high-achieving students as part of the Honors Community. The Brinson Honors College, which was founded in 1997 with 77 students, has now grown to more than 1,100 students, all working to maintain a high GPA at WCU while challenging themselves with honors courses and projects. Honors students provide support to one another as they work to achieve their academic goals.

Students in the Brinson Honors College community provide their own governance through the Brinson Honors College Board of Directors, which plans activities and offers input and direction to administrators on academic programming.

Balsam and Blue Ridge Hall

Honors students are invited to live in Balsam Hall or Blue Ridge Hall, two of the newest dorms at WCU, which are centrally located adjacent to the main dining hall, the central campus plaza and the Campus Rec Center. They also provide convenient, central access to the large majority of WCU’s academic buildings. A large study and meeting lounge above the building complex’s central archway provides a gathering spot for students to meet and work together.
