Agency Description: WATR is a community-based volunteer organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Tuckasegee River Watershed (watershed is defined as: the land mass that drains all the tributaries/waterways and rainfall to a common outlet).
Training: Any necessary training will be provided
Time Commitment: Flexible
Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements: Interest in water quality and environmental sciences, ability to work well with others. In addition, volunteers can use communication and social media skills to market WATR, and research skills can be used on a variety of the group's projects. Projects vary from simple tasks, group service sessions, incorporation of local water issues in research papers and capstone projects.
Volunteer Involvement: Creek cleanups, invasive plant removal, & live staking. Collecting and analyzing data, especially by biology, geoscience, computer science, and social science students. Work with landowners to reduce erosion and pollution. Greeting and assisting at meetings (typically held every other month in evenings). Assisting in public communications by writing articles for the newsletter, developing public surveys, helping with elementary school water quality teaching, producing videos, and documenting monitoring projects.
