Agency Description: Project F.I.R.E. (Fuel Intervention for Rural Elderly) is a heating assistance program that cuts, splits, and delivers firewood to elderly in need. This project is part of the Jackson County Department on Aging.

Training: Volunteers will be given training and instruction the day of the event.

Time Commitment: Wood splitting events are on Thursdays from 1-3pm, but can be scheduled otherwise if needed. There is a delivery event one Saturday every month from October to March, starting at 8:30 a.m. Location will alternate between the project sites.

Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements: All skill levels are welcome. Volunteers who have pickup trucks to use for deliveries are especially helpful. Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves, and may bring tools if they have them. You must have good people skills and relate easily with the older population.

Volunteer Involvement: Volunteers will help split, load, and deliver firewood in Jackson County. Refreshments are provided to volunteers on delivery days. Contact the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning or the program coordinator for upcoming Project F.I.R.E. dates.
