The Mountain Heritage Center is located in WCU's Hunter Library.

Agency Description:

The Mountain Heritage Center at WCU is a regional center for research and education. We connect people with local history and culture. We build bridges between the University and the wider community. We serve as a resource for cultural heritage organizations in the region.


Each area of interest requires some specific training.

Time Commitment:


Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements:

An interest in western North Carolina, Appalachia, or museum work is helpful but not necessary.

Volunteer Involvement:

Volunteers may assist with educational programs both at the MHC and in regional schools (good experience for Education and History majors), exhibit development (good experience for Arts and Sciences majors and/or Industrial Technology majors), and publications (Graphic Arts majors). Volunteers may also assist with research on artifacts or on exhibit topics.
