Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
If you need a book, article, or other library item for university-related purposes
and it is not available at Hunter Library or from Western North Carolina Library Network libraries
at Appalachian State or UNC-Asheville via ABC Express, we can locate and obtain it for you at no charge.
Articles are generally delivered electronically and may take as little as 1 or 2 days, but
can take longer. Books generally arrive in 1-2 weeks.
ILL items may be picked up at the Hunter Library Circulation Desk during library open hours; delivery to Biltmore Park is on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
How to use Interlibrary Loan:
- Check the Library Catalog, (the Books link on the library's homepage).Choose WNCLN on the drop-down box and
search the title of the book or the journal title from your citation. If you find
your item, simply use the Request button at the top of the screen. Read more about ABC Express and the Western North Carolina Library Network.
- If you can’t find the item (or it is not available for request), log in to Loan Shark
(ILL) or create a new account.
- Choose new request and select the type of item you want to borrow (Article, Book,
Book Chapter, etc.).
- Fill out the form as completely as possible. You will be required to enter the title,
author, and publication date of the item. For books, it helps to have the ISBN and
OCLC numbers, which you can find in WorldCat.
You can also connect to Interlibrary Loan when you are searching a library database
(e.g., Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, PSYCInfo). If you can't find the full text article in a database, look for the Find Full Text at Western Carolina Univ. link. If it doesn't lead you to full text in one of the library's other resources,
you will have the option to connect to Interlibrary Loan/Loan Shark.
