Circulation During Building Closure

In response to the increasing spread of COVID-19 and to ensure the well-being of WCU’s students, faculty, and staff, Hunter Library is restricting building access to only those individuals considered mandatory employees of the library (or other services housed within the library) until further notice. Hunter Library will still provide access, however, to physical materials housed in the library.

Hunter Library also continues to provide virtual patron support and e-materials to all WCU-affiliated individuals. Live support is available on our website via live chat between 8 a.m. and midnight each day and by phone on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.: 828-227-7485.

Process for Acquiring Physical Library Materials In Person

1) Request Item(s)

To request a physical item (print book, DVD, etc.) for pickup at Hunter Library:

  • Use the Request function in the online catalog;

  • Select WCU Library Pickup as your pickup location.
  • If you have difficulty using the online catalog and need to request an item, call 828-227-7485 or text 828-333-5822 during business hours; please have the author, title, and date ready for our staff.

2) Library Staff Pull the Item

Access Services staff will pull the item and check it out to you.

3) Pick Up

Physical materials may be picked up by appointment between 12 – 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call 828-227-7485 or text 828-333-5822.

You may either come to the library entrance and knock on the door to pick up your items or you may park in front of the library and text/call us for curbside delivery.

  • If you come to the main entrance to pick up your materials, you will be given the item(s) by Access Services staff through the entry door after displaying your CatCard. You will not be allowed to enter the building (Sorry!).
  •  If you request curbside delivery, you will be given your items through your car window or door by Access Services staff after displaying your CatCard.

Delivery Option for Materials

All WCU patrons may request to have items sent to their house via USPS or other delivery service, rather than coming to Hunter Library. To request a physical item (print book, DVD, etc.) for delivery:

  • Use the Request function in the online catalog;

  • Select WCU Home Mail Delivery as your pickup location. When requesting materials that must travel through the mail (including between libraries) please expect a delivery time of 1 to 2 weeks.
  • If you have difficulty using the online catalog and need to request an item, call 828-227-7485 or text 828-333-5822 during business hours.

Return Options for Materials

Due dates have been extended to July 1, 2020 for all materials checked out to our patrons.  This includes ABC and ILL materials. Questions may be directed to our circulation department by calling 828-227-7485, texting 828-333-5822.

If you are coming to campus to collect your belongings, please return your library materials. There are two book drops outside the library (one by the CatTran stop and a book slot on the library building). The campus bookstore will also accept library books that need to be returned.

You may also mail materials back to Hunter Library using the address below.
