Wes Stone is the Director and a Professor in the School of Engineering + Technology. He joined WCU in 2004 after 9 years in industry with General Electric and 2 years teaching at Valparaiso University. He earned his BS at the University of Texas at Austin, MS at Penn State University, and PhD at Georgia Tech – all 3 in Mechanical Engineering. He also serves as 1 of 2 Outdoor Industry Faculty Liaisons. His primary teaching duties are in product development, using a project-based learning (PBL) approach. His research interests are focused in outdoor gear design, analysis, and testing.
During his time at WCU, Dr. Stone has taught a wide array of courses in Engineering + Technology. Most recently he has taught courses in product development, Lean Six Sigma (quality), and numerical methods.
Dr. Stone's scholarship is focused in two main areas: engineering education and outdoor gear design, analysis, and testing.
