Biography

I joined the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders as an assistant professor in August of 2021. Prior to joining WCU I practiced as a speech-language pathologist for over 10 years in almost every setting in our field, from early intervention to skilled nursing facilities. Most recently, I founded a private practice specializing in the treatment of stuttering and other fluency disorders. I enjoy using these clinical experiences to help students connect their academic learning to clinical skills.

My primary clinical and research interests are in fluency disorders. I am especially interested in analyzing and developing strategies that people who stutter can use to improve communication and social inclusion, and the psychosocial and clinical components of successful stuttering management. I am passionate about empowering those with communication disorders and enjoy being part of self-help groups related to this cause.

When I am not on campus, I enjoy spending time with my family doing all things outdoors, traveling, and gardening.
