Mona Torabi

Biography

Dr. Mona Torabi is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Western Carolina University. Before joining WCU, she served as a faculty member at Old Dominion University, where she gained valuable experience in teaching. Dr. Torabi holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University, where she specialized in high-performance composite materials and their mechanical and thermal behavior. She also earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (Solid Mechanics) and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (Applied Mechanics) from Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman. Dr. Torabi is passionate about teaching, mentoring students, and leading innovative senior design and research projects at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Dr. Torabi’s research focuses on the mechanics, characterization, and design of advanced materials. Her specific areas of interest include:<br>Fracture mechanics of materials<br>Materials science and characterization of metals and polymers<br>Multi-physical experimental characterization of polymers, including mechanical, fracture, fatigue, and thermal stability behaviors<br>Structure–property relationships in metals and polymers, including blends and composites<br>Nanocomposite coatings and elastomers for high-temperature, high-pressure applications<br>Nanoindentation techniques for microscale mechanical property evaluation
