Dr. Parrish has been a faculty member at Western Carolina University since 2014. Prior to entering academia, he worked in college athletics as a sport facility and event manager. Dr. Parrish enjoys providing industry expertise to his students as well as to a variety of youth sport organizations in Western North Carolina.
Dr. Parrish's teaching interests include all aspects of sport facility and event management, including operations, design, funding, and event planning and production. He also enjoys teaching students effective administration strategies. Dr. Parrish is passionate about the global sports industry as it offers opportunities to explore international culture and understand the impact the global sports industry has on management practices in the United States. Students in his classes can anticipate opportunities to engage in a variety of experiential learning activities, including planning and producing live events and working on special projects with collegiate and professional sports teams in the region.
Dr. Parrish's research relates to the use of sports venues as host sites for social and corporate events. He is also interested in understanding the role of sport in the global marketplace, with a particular interest on international soccer as well as global talent migration. Dr. Parrish is an award winning author and his publications include 3 books and over 20 journal articles and book chapters. He was selected for the College of Business Professor of Excellence award for 2019-2020.
