Dr. Parrish is an Associate Professor of Sport Management and serves as School Director for Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Sport Management, and Hospitality and Tourism. He earned his Ph.D. from George Mason University in 2014, M.S. from Georgia Southern University in 2007, and B.S. from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 2002. <br>Prior to entering academia, Dr. Parrish worked in college athletics as a sport facility and event manager. He enjoys sharing industry expertise with his students as well as to a variety of sport organizations in Western North Carolina.
Dr. Parrish's teaching interests include all aspects of sport facility and event management, including operations, design, funding, and event planning and production. He is also passionate about the global sports industry and teaches international sport management courses. Students in his classes can anticipate opportunities to engage in a variety of experiential learning activities, including planning and producing live events and working on special projects with collegiate and professional sports teams in the region. Dr. Parrish also supervises sport management field experiences, including apprenticeships and internships.
Dr. Parrish's research focuses on the use of sports venues as host sites for social and corporate events. He is also interested in understanding the role of sport in the global marketplace, with a particular interest on international soccer and global talent migration. Dr. Parrish is an award winning author and his publications include 3 books and over 20 journal articles and book chapters. He was selected for the College of Business Professor of Excellence award for 2019-2020.
