Reynolds Hall is named after Alonzo Carlton Reynolds who served as President of Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School from 1912 - 1920. He replaced Western Carolina University founder Robert Lee Madison. One of his first acts as President was to purchase a small cart and two Shetland ponies that hauled supplies between the school and Sylva.
