Fall 2018 Cultural Immersion Excursion

The department of Intercultural Affairs will be sponsoring a bus trip to Virginia, Washington DC, and New York City on October 6th – 11th, 2018, during Fall Break. The Campus Theme for 2018-2019 is Defining America. The University seeks to provide campus-wide common intellectual experiences and to invite our campus to take a collective pause to investigate, discuss, and better understand this country; that is… to better understand its history, its present, and its future through a myriad of lenses.

This 5 day/5 night Cultural Immersion Excursion, American Heritage Tour: The Counter Narrative, will give students the opportunity to explore and learn the alternate heritages in three of our nation’s most defining cities. Students will visit Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s residence in Virginia, including an interactive tour of the slaves’ quarters. They will tour the Holocaust Museum and walk a Neighborhood Cultural Heritage Trail in Washington DC. Two days in New York City include China Town, Soho, Chelsea Pier, Freedom Tower, the Village, Times Square, an evening boat tour of the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and Brooklyn Bridge, and a Broadway musical. Hotel accommodations, transportation, admission fees, and all meals included.  Limited to the first 46 students to register. The total cost of this trip is $300 due by 9/7/18. A non-refundable deposit of $150 will hold a space.
