WCU EMS consist of only full-time enrolled students. These students are selected by the Director of Health Services and the WCU EMS Officer’s. Members are considered student employees of Western Carolina University and will be held accountable to all Codes of Conduct pertaining to the University.
WCU EMS will not discriminate against any member on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin.
WCU EMS members will not function as responders if they have any physical or mental impairment or disease which could reasonably be expected either to impair their ability to function as an EMT or to jeopardize the health or safety of their patients. If a disease or impairment exists, the member will immediately inform an officer of WCU EMS.
Upon hire, all personnel shall complete a probationary period and will be required to attend a new-hire orientation, as well as successfully complete a field training program before being released from probationary status.
* Those that possess a National Registry certification must also possess an NC State
EMT Certification. National Registry alone is NOT sufficient to operate as an EMT
in NC. Reciprocity information is available at the NREMT website.
** NIMS courses do not need to be completed at the time of the application and/or interview. If offered a position, applicants must complete and submit NIMS certification documents prior to attending new-hire orientation. Failure to turn in NIMS courses before the required deadline will result in termination of employment with WCU EMS.
