Campus Recreation & Wellness is proud to offer private and semi-private lessons to
WCU students, faculty, staff, and their family!
All CRW swim lessons are taught by certified American Red Cross™ Water Safety Instructors.
Lessons are available for individuals ages 6 months and up, including adults. A parent/guardian
must stay at Reid Pool for the duration of all lessons for any minor under 18.

Staff will be in touch within 2-3 business days after form submission to collect more
information and match you with an instructor.
Private swim lesson packages consist of 30 minute lessons, working 1 on 1 with a certified
instructor during Reid Pool Open Swim hours.
- 4 lesson package:
- $100 - CRC Members & WCU Students
- $120 - WCU Affiliate
- 8 lesson package:
- $160 - CRC Members & WCU Students
- $200 - WCU Affiliate
CRC Member & WCU Student pricing is limited to active CRC members and current WCU
students paying the student activities fee. Membership must be valid at time of purchase.
WCU Affiliate pricing is valid for all non-CRC member faculty/staff and non-fee paying
students. Price eligibility extends to spouse/partner and dependents of the individual
making the purchase.
Semi-private swim lesson packages consist of 30 minute lessons, with 2 participants
working with 1 with a certified instructor during Reid Pool Open Swim hours.

Semi-private lessons are limited to 2 individuals at a similar swim skill level. CRW
will not match individuals for semi-private lessons.

All lessons are scheduled directly with your assigned instructor during CRW Open Swim
hours at Reid Pool. The scheduled* open swim hours for Summer 2023 are:

- How do I register for lessons?

- Complete the Swim Lesson registration request form to begin the registration process. CRW Staff will be in touch within 2-3 business
days after form submission to collect more information and match you with an instructor.
- How do I schedule my lessons?

- Lessons will be scheduled directly with your assigned instructor via email or phone.
You can choose to keep the same meeting time(s) from week to week or change it from
week to week, whatever works best for you and your instructor!
- What happens if I need to reschedule?
-
- Requests to reschedule a lesson should be made directly with your instructor via email
or phone. All requests must be made at least 4 hours in advance of the lesson. Requests
made within 4 hours may not be accommodated and may count as one of the lessons.
- What happens if there is inclement weather, thunder, or lightning?

- Your instructor will work with you directly to schedule a time to make up instructional
time missed due to a weather related pool closure. Reid Pool closes if there is a
lightning strike within 10 miles of campus.
- What should be worn in the pool?

- Bathing suits and swim trunks should fit snuggly as to not hinder any movement. A
thermal swim shirt or rash guard may be a good option if your swimmer gets cold easily.
- Goggles are optional, please discuss with your instructor if you are unsure.
- Children not fully toilet trained must wear a swim specific diaper.
- Can we swim before/after the lesson?

- Anyone with a CatCard or a Family Swim pass may swim before or after their lesson,
so long as Reid Pool is open for Open Swim. Please check the hours of operation before planning your swim time.
- It is not recommended to swim at length prior to your private swim lesson, so your
swimmer is not exhausted before working with their instructor.
Purchasing:
- CRC Member & WCU Student pricing is limited to active CRC members and current WCU
students paying the student activities fee. Membership must be valid at time of purchase.
- WCU Affiliate pricing is valid for all non-CRC member faculty/staff and non-fee paying
students.
- Price eligibility extends to spouse/partner and dependents of the individual making
the purchase.
- All purchases are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
- All lessons must be scheduled within 120 days of the date of purchase. Remaining lessons
after 120 days are considered forfeited and will not be refunded.
Participant:
- Individuals must be a minimum of 6 months old to participate in swim lessons.
- Children 6 months to 2 years old must have a parent/guardian in the water participating
in the lesson.
- Children 2 to 3 years of age may benefit from a parent/guardian in the water. Parent/guardian
should discuss with their instructor prior to the first lesson.
- Parents in the water do not count as a “participant” toward the private/semi-private
requirements.
- Parent/guardian must stay at Reid for the duration of all lessons for any minor under
18.
- A signed waiver must be on file prior to the first lesson.
- Semi-private lessons are limited to 2 individuals at a similar swim skill level. CRW
will not match individuals for semi-private lessons.
Operational:
- All lessons must be scheduled during open swim hours at Reid Pool.
- Swimming before/after the lesson is limited to those with valid a CatCard or Family
Swim access.
- Participants are responsible for adhering to all WCU parking rules & regulations.
Parking passes will not be provided by CRW.
- Requests to reschedule a lesson must be made at least 4 hours in advance of the lesson.
Requests made within 4 hours may not be accommodated and may count as one of the lessons.
- Instructors will wait up to 15 minutes for late participants. Any time waited counts
toward the 30 minutes of instructional time.
- After 15 minutes, if participant has not shown, the instructor may leave, and the
session will count as one of the lessons.

Participants must be able to pass the required pre-requistes:
- Be at least 16 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
- Swim the following strokes:
- Front Crawl (Freestyle) - 25 yards
- Back Crawl (Backstroke) - 25 yards
- Breaststroke - 25 yards
- Elementary Backstroke - 25 yards
- Sidestroke - 25 yards
- Butterfly - 15 yards
- Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling).
- Tread water for 1 minute.
