Dance Team

The WCU Dance Team is a vital part of the Catamount community. The team brings spirit and energy to the football and basketball seasons and makes special appearances at campus and community events. In addition, the team participates in a Collegiate Nationals Competition each year.

Dance Team Tryouts

Tryouts for the 2024-2025  season will be held on Saturday April 27th 9am-5pm and Sunday April 28th 9am-1pm at the WCU Campus Recreation Center Studio 1. All interested students wanting to tryout, must register in advance. We will not accept walk-ins.

To register for tryouts,  please complete the registration form. Registrations will be accepted until April 25th, 2024.

If you cannot attend the in-person tryout, video submissions will be accepted. To submit a video tryout, email a video file or link to the video file to the WCU Dance Team. Type "Dance Team Tryout Video Submission (date of submission)" in the email subject line. All videos must be emailed by April 25th 5pm (EST). We will not accept late submissions.

**Please make sure to set viewing access to PUBLIC so that all the judges can view**

The following are minimum requirements to audition:

• Leaps (both directions), switch leap and leap in second
• Calypso and Turning Disc
• Double turns (both directions)
• Triple Turn (both direction)
• Turns in second combination (two 8 counts)
• Toe touch
• A choreographed Pom routine (minimum 6 eight counts)
• A choreographed Hip Hop routine (minimum 6 eight counts)
• A choreographed Jazz/Contemporary routine (minimum 6 eight counts)
• 1 mile run  or Screenshot of a 1 mile run for video tryouts (must be under 9:30 minutes)
• Any additional advanced technique that you would like to show us.

Please note that we do not provide any choreography for tryouts, so feel free to create/use your own as you see fit.
