In the fall of 2016, the Board of Trustees of the Endowment Fund of Western Carolina University approved a sublease of a 2-acre tract on the Millennial Initiative site to Summit Healthcare Group of Winston-Salem, which is partnering with WCU on the development of an approximately 30,000 square foot medical office building project. The building will sit adjacent to the existing Health and Human Sciences building.

Summit Healthcare, which has experience in Jackson County having developed the obstetrics and gynecology clinic across from Harris Regional Hospital, is currently seeking tenants for the space. The building is expected to include 30,000 square feet of space for health care professionals and health-related businesses.

Construction is expected to begin in 2018.
