During this two-day seminar, Dr. Mary Fischer will introduce participants to several topics and strategies related to the recognition and reporting for financial entities including operations and a GASB/GAAP Update. Accounting staff from public colleges and universities including departmental business officers and foundation accountants can benefit from attending this seminar.
By completing this seminar attendees will have a better understanding of college and university accounting concepts including learning about the basic formats used by institutions when presenting their financial statements. There will be a presentation and discussion related to recent changes by GASB accounting standards and the anticipated effects of those changes within the public higher education industry.
Attendees will be encouraged to discuss current relevant issues related to the practical implementation of the standards concerning financial accounting and reporting for public higher education.
Western Carolina University (WCU) is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority of the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Dr. Mary Fischer currently serves as a full professor in Accounting for the University of Texas at Tyler, College of Business and Technology.
Dr. Fischer has published over fifty research papers regarding cash flow recognition, financial accounting, accounting education, auditing and financial management of not-for-profit organizations and is a frequent local and national seminar speaker regarding FASB and GASB GAAP Updates.
She produced a weekly accounting tutorial that is posted on the World Wide Web and is the co-author of an advanced accounting text published by Wiley Publication.
