This one-day workshop will highlight the importance of developing cultural competency as part of the nonprofit professional practice in culturally diverse settings. Participants will learn more about the role of culture, alternative views, and differences when advancing mission and engaging in nonprofit management practice. Additionally, topics and group discussion will focus on developing increased knowledge of diversity and cultural competency, and effective skills to gain the trust, respect, and legitimacy of the nonprofit's stakeholders (e.g., volunteers, funders, program participants, donors, etc.). Participants will be encouraged to act in a supportive manner that recognizes the feelings of another cultural group, especially when managing/supervising others.
This workshop is being offered as a standalone training or can be taken as part of the Certified Nonprofit Professional Program. For more information on the CNP program, email jcthompson@wcu.edu or call 828-227-7397.
