Class Description

This series of workshops is an introduction to writing beautiful harmonies for the songs you love to play. Some people have the mistaken notion that creating harmonies is something for only the very musically gifted, but it is a skill that can be learned and honed by just about anyone who loves music and is willing to apply a few basic principles. We will start off by playing some simple harmonies and figuring out what makes them work. Then we will work through some familiar tunes to learn how to use some simple, basic principles to write harmony parts. Finally, each participant will use those basic principles to tab out an original harmony part for a song that can be shared with the rest of the group.

List of Goals:

  • Participants will write and share original harmony parts for at least one song of their choice. (Primary)

  Sub goals:

  • Participants will play several harmony tabs provided by the instructor.

  • Participants will choose alternative chord inversions to optimize their harmony parts.
  • Participants will write good, clean tab of their harmony parts.
  • Participants will share original harmony parts with fellow participants.
