Time and Length of Sessions: 4:00-5:30 PM Eastern Time Zone, 1.5 hours in length, Total 6 hours (plus private time upon request)

In this class the participants will learn about past and present practices of music in healthcare, all the while discovering how each person can bring this compassion and companionship to others in a long-term facility or other isolated setting.  Appropriate song choice, manner of presentation and ethics involved in volunteering will be addressed. Though this class does not earn a certification as a music therapist or music practitioner, it will provide a clearer understanding about these programs.

Materials:  Mountain Dulcimer, tuned in DAD.  Capo. Handouts will be provided via PDF. Access to computer or mobile device for zoom streaming.  Optional purchase of Timeless Treasures for the Older Adult, 100 page music binder from instructor at cost of $20.

Playing Level:  This class is not suitable for beginner or novice players. Players should be comfortable playing a song(s) from beginning to end, maintaining relatively good rhythm and tempo.  Students should feel comfortable reading tab and playing songs presented at a low to mid intermediate level.
