Cat-Tran, the Catamount On-Campus Transportation System, is a student-supported service offered through Parking and Transportation at Western Carolina University. 

Updates to stops and scheudles have been made for the Fall 2022 semester. Please see the schedule for routes, stops and times of service.

With Cat-Tran, you're never more than a few minutes away from the center of campus. See you on the bus!

Please Note: Cat-Tran shuttle times and availability can be affected by adverse weather.

FAQ's

Download the PASSIO GO app, choose Western Carolina University in the drop-down menu,         

and you will now be able to track all the shuttles that are on route.

You can go to the Cat-Tran website (WCU parking and transportation) Click on “Cat-Tran Route”

and all the routes, times and stops will be listed there.

You do not have to pay to ride Cat-Tran. Cat-Tran is available to all students, staff, faculty and family members when they visit.

The following rules apply to everyone who rides Cat-Tran:

  1. NO Smoking or Vaping allowed on a shuttle.
  2. NO alcoholic beverages or open containers are allowed on a shuttle.
  3. NO standing is allowed on a shuttle.
  4. NO scooters, skateboards, long boards, or one-wheels allowed on a shuttle.
  5. NO fighting, disrespect or profanity will be tolerated on a shuttle.

Cat-Tran shuttles only go off campus when we provide the” Shopping Shuttle”.  This service is

provided one day each week.  The shuttle(s) will start at The University Center at 5:30 pm traveling to

Wal-Mart and Ingles.  The Shuttles will make continuous loops for 2 hours.  The last pick-up at Wal-Mart

will be 7:40 pm.  The shopping shuttle schedule can be found on The Cat-Tran web page, and it will be  

posted inside every shuttle.

Shuttle times: Monday - Friday: 7:30 am – 11:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday:  11:00 am – 11:00 pm

seven (7) days a week – two (2) shuttles will operate: 11:00 pm – 3:00 am from the outer parking lots

to the resident halls.

Yes, two (2) shuttles are in operation Monday thru Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Shuttles will not operate on the following holidays or breaks: Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Good Friday, Fall Break, Winter Break, Spring Break. Schedules will also be posted on the web site and PASSIO app for breaks.

Cat-Tran shuttles are available during the following events for student and non-student riders: All home football games, Graduation (May and December), Open House and Mountain Heritage Day.

The only animal allowed on the Cat-Tran shuttles are registered Service Dogs. ESA or “in training” animals are not permitted on the shuttles.

Yes, Cat-Tran has an ADA service van that is available for those who need assistance with any mobility issues.  This service is available Monday - Friday 8:00 am till 11:00 pm. You can call the Cat-Tran office at: 828-227-3353, or the Non-emergency Dispatch at: 828-227-7301 to request this service.

Cat-Trans will pick up and drop off at designated Cat Tran stops only. With the PASSIO GO app you will be able to see all shuttles, routes and stops available. Please note that the Cat-Tran HUB is located at the University Center. All shuttles will begin and end a route at the HUB. If you need to change shuttles, you will need to ride the shuttle to the HUB and switch to the other shuttle needed.

All accidents are reported to The Western Carolina University Campus Police Department. All persons involved must remain at the scene of the accident until instructed otherwise by the Western Carolina University Police Department.

All items are kept on the shuttle until you return to claim it.  In the event there is identification available, you will be contacted via email.  At the end of the day, if your item has not been claimed it will be brought to the Cat-Tran Office located on the 3rd floor of the University Center. If the item still hasn’t been claimed, it will be turned over to the lost and found located on the 2nd floor of the University Center.
All Cat-Tran shuttles have a designated seating capacity.  If a shuttle is full, the driver will notify the next shuttle in line that you are waiting. You will be picked up by the next shuttle in line with availability.
