WCU 2020 Plan

Western Carolina University's strategic plan, "2020 Vision: Focusing on our Future" was completed in 2012 and unanimously approved by the WCU Board of Trustees in August of that year. An update to the plan was completed early in 2018 and adopted by the Board of Trustees in June. The original plan's original six strategic directions were expanded to seven. They include:

#1 – Academic Excellence

Students supporting regional programs.

We commit to providing our students with a rigorous curriculum that is composed of the intellectual, creative, cultural, and personal outcomes necessary to advance and excel. 



#2 – Student Experience

We will enrich the student experience through creating intentional co-curricular and curricular programs, which will prepare students to successfully engage in a vibrant, complex, and culturally diverse world.


#3 – Inclusive Excellence

We commit to creating a campus reflective of our core values and offer curricular and co-curricular educational programs that prepare our students for the diverse world in which they live. 


#4 – Regional and Community Engagement
