  2. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under ARP was $9,032,791.
  3. The estimated total number of students at the University eligible to participate in thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under ARP was 11,374.
  4. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under ARP was 11,374.
  5. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under ARP is: Western Carolina University administered block grants to distribute Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students who experienced unexpected expenses that were directly related to changes in campus operations due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.  Western Carolina University chose to utilize enrollment information to administer and document the process.
  6. Any instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants:

The communication methods Western Carolina University utilized were direct postcard mailings, direct email to all students, as well as postings to various social media accounts.

  3. The estimated total number of students at the University eligible to participate in thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under CRRSAA was 11,284.
  4. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under CRRSAA was 5,792.
  5. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under CRRSAA is:  Western Carolina University administered block grants and an application to track and distribute Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students who experienced unexpected expenses that were directly related to changes in campus operations due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.  Western Carolina University chose to utilize our scholarship application portal to administer and document the process.

The communication methods Western Carolina University utilized were direct email to all students, as well as postings to various social media accounts.  If students applied to the Student Affairs Emergency Fund by accident, they were directed to the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds.

  3. The estimated total number of students at the University eligible to participate in thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under ARP was 6,854.
  4. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under ARP was 6,038.
  5. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under ARP is:  Western Carolina University administered block grants to distribute Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students who experienced unexpected expenses that were directly related to changes in campus operations due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.  Western Carolina University chose to utilize FAFSA information to administer and document the process.

On April 13, 2020 and on April 24, 2020, Western Carolina University signed and returned to the Department of Education the required Funding Certification and Agreement forms and agrees that the University has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

  1. The total amount of funds that the University received is $8,893,407.
  2. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was $4,446,703.
  3. The estimated total number of students at the University eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was 7339.
  4. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was 4,354.
  5. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is:

Emergency Financial Aid Grants are available to eligible Western Carolina University students who experienced unexpected expenses that were directly related to changes in campus operations due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.  The grant assistance is available to undergraduate and graduate residential degree-seeking students who are eligible to be considered for financial aid.  Emergency grants can be used to help cover out-of-pocket expenses related to child care, food, housing, medical or health care costs, technology and travel. The funds cannot be used to cover lost wages or for tuition assistance.

Western Carolina University has fully expended the available funds required to be distributed as Emergency Financial Aid Grants.
