Field Turf Replacement Project

With an anticipated lifespan of up to 10 years, the artificial turf at E.J. Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field was installed in September 2008. At the conclusion of the turf’s 11th year of use, the Department of Athletics is planning an upgrade to improve the experiences of our student-athletes.

Replacing the turf with a modernized playing surface will maximize performance, reduce the possibility of injury, and enhance practice efficiencies for Catamount football. The field is not only used exclusively by football, but also by all of our student-athletes through strength and conditioning programs, the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, intramurals and the cheer/spirit programs. The new turf, which will surpass that of our Southern Conference rivals, will include upgraded branding elements to provide a fresh look that will help recruit top student-athletes to Cullowhee and enhance the experience of fans whether in the stadium or watching via broadcast.

For this year's Giving Tuesday project, donations will specifically focus on the Field Turf Replacement Project. Giving Tuesday is on December 3, 2019, this year and will be the deadline for the first phase of this fundraising project.

One generous Catamount Club member has issued a challenge gift opportunity to Catamount Nation. If the Giving Tuesday goal of $50,000 is met by our Catamount Faithful, it will unlock a match of a $50,000 philanthropic gift. Meaning, each of your dollars will be doubled if we hit the goal!

Incentives

Giving Tuesday donors, at any level of financial support, will receive recognition in all 2020 football game day programs. Donors to the Field Turf Replacement Project at or above $2,500 ($105 a month for 24 months) will receive a piece of memorialized turf. Your support is needed to unlock this challenge gift and to make this project become a reality for WCU student-athletes.
