2019 Catamount Club Greek Challenge

What is Catamount Club's Greek Challange?

The Catamount Club Greek Challenge is designed to allow alumni to celebrate the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood that span the decades at WCU, while also helping continue the mission to generate scholarship support for Catamount Athletics. The Catamount Club look's forward to having another successful year of our generous Greek alumni supporting our WCU student-athletes.

The Greek Challenge plays a vital role in impacting our student-athletes, as well as spreading the Catamount Club message. With the bonds that fraternities and sororities hold, the Greek Challenge is a perfect avenue to engage new Catamount fans and connect them with what the Catamount Club aims to build in Cullowhee.

Over the last 10 years, the Catamount Club has set new fundraising records due in large part to the overwhelming success of the Greek Challenge. In recent years over 50% of the annual student-athlete scholarship fund has been donated by Greek alumni. Our student-athletes would not be afforded the opportunities that they have nor, would the Catamount Club be able to continually shatter goals if it were not for the transformational generosity of the entire Greek Community! With your help, we can surpass our goal of 675 donors participating in this year's challenge!

How Does the Greek Challenge Work?

This year there will only be two main matrices that each fraternity and sorority will be evaluated on.

  • Total dollars raised
  • Total number of participants

There are two groups of fraternities and two groups of sororities, who will compete to see who can make the biggest impact on our WCU student-athletes. The four “flights” of teams were assembled to create the most equitable formatting for the Greek Challenge. These flights were made based on each organization’s historical participation and size.

How To Participate:

This year we have incorporated the use of a new platform for the Greek Challenge,  GiveCampus. The platform was decided upon due to the ease of use and the allowance of a more streamlined approach to staying up to date on rankings and progress of each team throughout the Greek Challenge.

To participate, please visit the GiveCampus site and locate the Greek Challenge campaign tile. From there, you will select the division your organization is competing in. Find your respective organization and donate to that organization. Your donation will be counted for your respective organization and to the overall Greek Challenge. You can check back at any time to see where your organization stands in comparison.

Alternatively, you may also make a donation by giving online or making a phone call to our office! Additionally, all donations made since the end of last year’s contest is part of this year’s challenge. If you are not sure if your donation qualifies please contact the Catamount Club by calling (828) 227-3047 or emailing bailey@wcu.edu and we will be happy to assist you!

What Will the Winners Receive?

The winners of 2018's Greek Challange (lambda chi alpha) get their banner unveiled and react to seeing it.

The winners will be honored at this year’s Homecoming game, Saturday, October 26th, 2019, where their organization’s letters will be revealed at the end of the 1st quarter. The Greek letters will be flown below the video board in the football stadium’s south end zone, as well as on banners around the stadium.

The Grand Prize for the 2019 Catamount Club Greek Challenge will be awarded to the Greek organization that raises the most money overall. The team that raises the most dollars in philanthropic support of WCU Athletics will receive:

Hosted “2020 Catamount Weekend” Package

  • Includes deluxe accommodations for lodging and amenities at partner community of WCU Athletics
  • 25 complimentary tickets to one home football game during the 2020 season
  • 15 parking spots at that game
  • Other amenities provided by WCU Athletics

Details on the specifics of these amenities will be released later this year. Possibilities include discounts for lodging, food, and/or activities for a weekend in Western North Carolina in 2020.

NOTE: This will exclude the home opener, family weekend, and Homecoming games in 2020.

Is There a Deadline to Participate?

The deadline to participate in the Challenge will be 5:00 pm on Friday, October 18th, 2019. Only accounts paid in full or scheduled with one of our staff members will count. If you make a donation after this date it will carry over to next years Greek Challange.

The Catamount Club asks you to reach out to your network of brothers and sisters and encourage them to get involved and make a difference in the future of WCU Athletics.
