Information for High School Counselors

What Students Need to Submit:

The Office of Admission will evaluate each undergraduate freshman application once the application and required documents (official transcripts, scores, etc.) have been received. Please allow 2-3 weeks upon sending documentation to allow items to be processed.

Application Requirements:

Complete Freshman Application (all applications are non-binding)
Application fee of $65 (some students may qualify for a fee waiver based on financial need)
Official transcripts from all schools attended
WCU is test-optional if the student's weighted GPA is 2.8 or higher. All applicants with test scores are encouraged to submit them, but applicants with a weighted GPA below 2.8 must submit a test score.

High School Minimum Course Requirements:

Whether first-year applicants are enrolled in public, private or home school; North Carolina or out-of-state school systems; or high school equivalency programs, they must earn a high school diploma or its equivalent and satisfy the Minimum Course Requirements (MCR) as established by the UNC Board of Governors:

Four units of English
Two units of social studies (one in U.S. history)
Four units of mathematics (algebra I, algebra II, geometry and an advanced unit of mathematics beyond algebra II)
Three units of science (life science, physical science and a laboratory course)
Two additional academic units (
2 sequential world language courses are recommended, but courses can come from English, math, science, social studies, world languages, or computer science to align with academic and career objectives)

Admission Application Deadline:

November 1: Freshman Early Action/Great Grades Guarantee application deadline for Fall Term.

January 2: Priority Action Freshman application deadline for Fall Term.

February 1: Regular Action Freshman application deadline for Fall Term.

May 1: Freshman enrollment deposit ($300) deadline for Fall Term.

Information for Community College Counselors

WHAT STUDENTS NEED TO SUBMIT:

The Office of Admission will evaluate each transfer application once the application and required documents (official transcripts, scores, etc.) have been received. Please allow 2-3 weeks upon sending documentation to allow items to be processed.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Complete Transfer Application (all applications are non-binding)
Application fee of $65 (some students may qualify for a fee waiver based on financial need)
Official transcripts from all schools attended (see Application Standards below)
Official test scores (see Application Standards below). On April 7, 2022 the UNC Board of Governors voted to extend the current testing waiver for students applying for admissions through Fall 2024. Therefore, students have the option to submit an ACT or SAT test score, however test scores are not required for admission decisions at this time.

Application Standards:

Applicants under 24 years of age will need to submit:

An official final high school transcript *if currently working on an AA or AS college transfer degree, this requirement may be waived, but not until the applicant has received the degree, sending in a transcript can speed up the process
Official transcripts from all colleges attended
Official SAT/ACT test scores (unless 30 hours of college credit have been completed). On April 7, 2022 the UNC Board of Governors voted to extend the current testing waiver for students applying for admissions through Fall 2024. Therefore, students have the option to submit an ACT or SAT test score, however test scores are not required for admission decisions at this time.
