Climbing Spire

Join BCC every Tuesday night starting March 11th in Reid gym to climb on the climbing spire. With 4 different routes there's a climbing option for every skill level. Bring your Cat Card No registration required. Tuesdays 7-9pm FREE!!

Kayak Roll Clinic

BCC instructors will be on hand to instruct the basics of rolling a kayak. Come learn the first steps of whitewater kayaking, all in the comfort of an indoor swimming pool. Bring your Cat Card No registration required. Thursdays 7-9pm FREE!!

Friday Night Ski/snowboard at Cataloochee

When the week has been long and all you're looking for is a little bit of fun and adventure, what better way to relax than a full night of skiing at Cataloochee! Join Base Camp Cullowhee on the slopes of Cataloochee ski resort every Friday night for the whole winter. Ski under the lights!  We've got special discounted rates that you can't beat! Skiers and Snowboarders are welcome.

Cost:  

$5 Transportation only
$20 WC / $22 Students / $27 Staff for Transportation from campus and a lift ticket
$25 WC / $27 Students / $32 Staff for Transportation, lift ticket, ski rentals, and optional lesson
$35 Students / $40 Staff for Transportation, lift ticket and snowboard rental

Time: 4:45pm-10:30pm

Dates: January 18, 25  & February 8, 15, 22, 29      February 8 th : WILD CAT CLUB free ski night

Registration Deadline: 5pm on the Thursday before the trip.

Day Caving

Always wanted to go on our caving trips but can't give up the whole weekend?  We'll head out on Saturday morning and you'll be back to sleep in your own bed on Saturday night.  Explore rock formations, cave life, and an underground river.  Equipment, transportation, and some food included.

Winter Backpacking

Learn how to travel, camp, and cook in the cold weather.  We'll head to one of our favorite winter camping spots for a hike in and an overnighter. We provide all the needed equipment and food. Just bring your hiking shoes and your warm clothes!

Spring Break - Costa Rica

Volunteer with sea turtle restoration

Don't miss this once in a lifetime trip to Costa Rica. Base Camp is partnering with Service Learning to provide this international service learning spring break.

 


The main focus of this trip will be working with sea turtles. We'll help them with their nesting and also help local scientists collect valuable data that will assist them in protecting this endangered species.

 

The trip will also include a day of whitewater rafting, a day of canyoneering, and much more. Academic credit is available for this trip. You can also qualify for financial aid to cover the entire cost!

Join us on a full weekend of climbing.  We'll base the clinic on the skill of the group that signs up and that will determine where we go so let us know what you are looking for! Equipment and most meals provided.

3rd Annual Kayak Demo Day and Competition

Base Camp Cullowhee is bringing kayaking to you!  Kayak manufacturers such as Wave Sport, Dagger, Riot and more will bring their and latest hottest boats to WCU for you to demo.  We'll start in Reid pool and move to the Slab Hole on the East Fork of the Tuckaseegee after lunch.  We'll wrap up the day with a movie and pizza in the UC Theater.  Kayaking doesn't get more convenient than this!

Whitewater Rafting

The famous Nantahala River offers 9 miles of Class II-III whitewater adventure perfect for everyone from the first time rafter to the experienced paddler.

Full Moon Hike

Join us Friday night on a hike lit by the full moon.  Enjoy the crisp winter sky, stars, and the company of others as we hike one of our favorite trails.  So grab some warm clothes, a snack, and a flashlight (in case the moon decides to take a break) and relax from your normal Friday night!

Women in the Wilderness

This semester Base Camp and the Women's Center will head out on a day hike with a gourmet backcountry meal at the end (well as gourmet as we know how to do).  We'll discuss history, vegetation, and anything else you'd like to talk about while enjoying the scenery.

Hang Gliding

If adventure is your thing then hang gliding may be your next passion. We'll travel to Look Out Mountain near Chattanooga TN and spend a whole day hang gliding.  The morning session is on a small beginner's hill where you learn to fly the glider.  In the afternoon you and your instructor will be towed to 2,000ft and enjoy a 20 min glide back down to earth.  We'll provide dinner on Saturday night, breakfast on Sunday morning, transportation, and camping gear.

Weekend Rafting and Hiking on the Chattooga

The Wild and Scenic Chattooga rive is arguably one of the most beautiful and exciting rivers in the country.  Section 4 of the Chattooga boast infamous Class IV rapids such as 7 Foot Falls, Cork Screw, Jawbone, Soc em Dog and more.  We'll spend Saturday hiking in the local forest, camp over night, and then spend all day Sunday on the river.  Price includes equipment, guides, transportation, and most food.

24th Annual Tuckaseegee River Cleanup

Need service hours? Want to help the environment? Looking for a fun FREE activity for the weekend? Every year hundreds of volunteers join forces to clean up 26 miles of the Tuckaseegee River corridor.  Once you register on the UC lawn you'll be given a Free T-shirt (while they last), snack, Personal Floatation Device, Paddle, and transportation to the river.  Once there you'll get trash bags, listen to the river talk, hop in a raft and off down the river you go for a rafting / trash picking up experience! Weekend Kayak Clinic

This full weekend of kayaking will take you from the pool on Friday to the river Saturday and Sunday and teach you all the skills you need in between. All the equipment, instruction, and food is included and you'll be back home each night to sleep in your own bed.  Great for novice to intermediate paddlers.
