The University Club at Western Carolina University was created in 1989 to enhance a sense of community at WCU. Its members include full- and part-time faculty, retired faculty, staff members, and some community members.
The UClub sponsors a variety of events to provide social and intellectual interaction for its members, guests, and often for the greater university community. Most events are free or very low-cost.
Every week the UClub house opens at 4:30 for the Friday gathering informally known as TGIF. Friday gatherings provide end-of-the-week relaxation, with conversation, snacks, soft drinks, beer, and wine. Members take turns tending bar until approximately 6:30pm.
Once per month during the academic year, the UClub holds a special event for its members and guests. Some activities have become annual traditions such as the fall Chili Cook-off, Oktoberfest, Gourmet Microbrew Tasting, Robbie Burns Supper, and a Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration. Other activities have included a Midsummer’s Night Concert and Cookout, Mardi Gras Dinner, and Wine Tastings.
In addition, the UClub occasionally sponsors other campus or community events such as guest speakers, slide shows, and discussion forums. Join us! |
