The following principles guide the work of the University Advisory Council of Western Carolina University:
1.
The University Mission Statement and the University Code provide the framework for structures and processes.
2.
All major stakeholders -- faculty, students, staff, and administrators – have representation. Any member of the university community may raise concerns and make suggestions without fear of retribution.
3.
Our behavior is consciously and explicitly collegial, professional, and civil. Reasoned disagreement is valued.
4.
An institution-wide perspective is supported and rewarded.
5.
Processes are expedient and efficient.
6.
Decisions, recommendations and deliberations are based on information. Wisdom, talent and expertise are valued.
7.
Processes include closure and feedback.
8.
Appropriate consideration is given to external constituencies.
9.
Collegial processes encourage and support innovation and experimentation.
10. Governance is an iterative, reflective process. Structures and processes are continually adapted to changing forces and environments. |
