Mission, Purpose, and Guiding Principles
|
| |
The purpose of the University Advisory Council (UAC) is to promote the identification, discussion, and resolution of issues affecting the university community. The Council facilitates communication across constituencies and fosters effective campus leadership.
We value mutual respect, cooperation, the freedom to disagree, and inclusive decision-making.
The Council is designed to:
- Facilitate discussion of campus-wide issues
- Give equal voice to all constituencies
- Provide a forum for generating ideas and solving problems creatively
- Consult with and support constituent organizations
- Foster a sense of community
- Make recommendations to the Chancellor and other appropriate decision-making bodies
Guiding principles:
- The University Mission Statement and the University Code provide the framework for structures and processes.
- All major stakeholders-faculty, students, staff, and administrators have representation.
- Any member of the university community may raise concerns and make suggestions without fear of retribution.
- Our behavior is consciously and explicitly collegial, professional, and civil, while the freedom to disagree is valued.
- An institution-wide perspective is supported and rewarded.
- Processes are expedient and efficient. Appropriate consideration is given to external constituencies.
- Collegial processes encourage and support innovation and experimentation.
- Governance is an iterative, reflective process. Structure and processes are continually adapted to changing forces and environments.
- The UAC does not oversee constituent organizations. The Council's relationships with these organizations are characterized by support and assistance.
Organization:
Western has four independent governing groups supported by one body comprised of equal representation from each group.
Four-Cameral, Quad-Partite -- Uni-Cameral Organization
