401 HFR Administration

Members present: Nancy Dillard, Tori Ellison, Bob Orr, Kathy Wong, Lex Davis, Debbie Beck, and Chris Hall, Secretary

The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m.

Welcome

Nancy Dillard, Chairperson, 2002-03 University Advisory Council

Mrs. Dillard explained the purpose and function of the Executive Committee.

Members of the Executive Committee introduced themselves.

The new UAC website is up and running thanks to Bob Orr.

The meeting times and locations of the Full Council and Executive Committee were reviewed.

The agenda has been altered. Information items have been relocated toward the end of the agenda, and current business will come before reports.

Chuck Wooten has been invited to the first Council meeting scheduled for September 10 to provide construction and budget updates.

The UAC membership list will be updated as soon as all appointments have been made.

Bill Haggard and David Whitaker, former UAC members, will be present at the first full council meeting to provide a brief explanation of the history and purpose of the UAC.

Kathy Wong stated that the Leadership Committee has made extensive progress. An intern working this year will construct a survey for students on campus regarding leadership. Lex Davis will appoint two students to the committee.

The Executive Committee members were asked to brainstorm and suggest guests to be invited to UAC meetings who could provide information to the members. Oak Winters was suggested as a possible guest who could provide some information regarding Continuing Education and Summer School and the Outreach Center.

The agenda for the September 10 meeting was reviewed.

Debbie Beck expressed a concern that Health Services currently has no way of knowing which students who visit and receive services are Continuing Education students. The concern was expressed because those students do not pay fees for those services.

Rick Collings was suggested as another possible guest to speak to the UAC, in addition to someone from the Department of Residential Living.

Lex Davis provided a brief SGA update and discussed changes and initiatives. In regards to residence halls, some issues that are currently being researched or are in place include visitation, 24/7 lockdown, and the use of a swipe card.

The Executive Committee members will be anxious to learn about the Faculty Senate restructuring at the UAC meetings as progress occurs throughout the academic year.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
