Meeting Date: April 1, 2001

 

Members Present: Kirill Murphy, Bob Orr, Carolyn Parris, Tori Ellison, John Ritchie, Bill Haggard, Jane Hall, Roger Turk, Nancy Dillard, Andy DeGrove, Kathy Wright, Casey Hurley, Fred Hinson, Dave Whitaker, Jeanine Knowles, Mary Jean Herzog, Lou Argueta, Dianne Lynch, JJ Rowe, Lisa Bloom, and Linda Sutton
Members Absent: Kathy Wright, Joe Cowan, and John Bardo

The meeting was called to order at 3:38PM.

The Chancellor was called away to a meeting in Raleigh.

Taskforce on Mediation, Advocacy, and Conflict Resolution Report:
The attached report covers recommendations for UAC to support/analyze. Campus wide survey to determine effectiveness of administrative units/offices. Recommendations are attached on page 3. Special recommendation on the Office of the Ombudsman. Ombuds could interface with existing policies rather than creating new ones. Action steps: send recommendations forward to Chancellor; ask governance bodies for feedback on entire report; including specific feedback on the creation of the Ombuds position.

Health Care Issue from Staff Forum:
Lisa Scruggs; chair of the Benefits Committee of the Staff forum reports that health insurance will become very expensive in the coming years; the UAC may support this resolution to send to the Chancellor about a multi-constituent concern. April 19 Town Conversation about this issue with issues from 3 universities. Action step: Support the issue and advise the Chancellor accordingly.

Terms of Office Discussion:
Elections take place in May and the officers of Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary have terms of one year with only one year experience, make the structure known to all so they can make an informed choice concerning appointments. Gather membership list for new members and who is eligible for EC status. We will contact the Chairs of the constituent groups for their appointments as soon as possible.

Issue Update
: The website contains a list of all issues that have been discussed as well as the status of their disposition. There were no announcements.

The next meeting of the UAC will be on May 3, 2001 at 3:30 PM at the Outreach Center at the Camp Lab Building with elections and dinner to follow.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:57 PM.
