The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m.
Election Procedures
The Executive Committee supports the proposed election procedures and will seek the full Council’s approval at the March 19th meeting.
Leadership Committee
A small group from the Leadership Committee will meet with the Chancellor’s Executive Council on April 1st at 10:30 a.m. This meeting is designed to gain support and guidance from the Vice Chancellors, and to assist with faculty "buy-in" for WCU leadership initiatives.
Student Academic Suspension Policy
The Student Affairs Committee of the Faculty Senate is currently reviewing this policy. The updated version will include an action plan for students placed on academic warning. Susan Smith, Director of Educational Support Services, has been asked to outline these steps. If the Faculty Senate approves the revised policy in April, it will become effective for the fall 2002 semester.
Communications Committee
Debie Connelly and the Communications Committee have asked the Executive Committee to examine their role, purpose and structure. They believe the committee has outgrown its original mission – to improve communication among all university governance groups and to promote these activities within the WCU community. Should this committee become a vehicle for special events or should special task forces be appointed as needed to handle communication-related issues and special event promotion? The Executive Committee will discuss this in greater detail at the March 27th meeting.
Health Benefits Event
Keith Styles and Lisa Scruggs have requested that 2 separate events be held. The first scheduled for April will focus on health insurance with Ron Penny from the Office of the President. The second event scheduled for the fall semester will invite legislators to campus to discuss the budget situation.
Social Security Task Force
This task force will hold its first meeting on March 5th at 10:00 a.m.
