NOVEMBER SCHOLARSHIPS

UNC-ASHEVILLE WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP – must apply to UNC-A have a solid academic record, and interest in developing skills and public service; amount - $1000; November 12 deadline to be received in UNC-AÕs office.
UNC-ASHEVILLE LAURELS ACADEMIC/MERIT SCHOLARSHIP – must apply to UNC-A, and possess outstanding academic achievement and promise (have three of the following factors: rank in top 10% of class; 3.5 GPA; SAT I score above 1250 or ACT score above 28; enrolled in a challenging curriculum); amount – varies; November 12 deadline.
PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP – must apply to Presbyterian College with an outstanding academic record; amount – varies from $5000 to full-cost awards; November 15 deadline.
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA (COLUMBIA) MCNAIR SCHOLARSHIP – must have strong academic and leadership record in high school (1300 SAT V&M scores or 29 ACT scores); amount – varies up to $60,000 over 4 years plus waives out-of-state tuition; November 15 deadline (scholarship application online at: www.sc.edu/financialaid).
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA (COLUMBIA) COOPERS SCHOLARSHIP – must have excellent grades in high school (1350 SAT V&M scores); amount –varies plus waives out-of-state tuition for 4 years; November 15 deadline (no scholarship application due but must submit admissions application online at: www.sc.edu/financialaid).
UNC-WILMINGTON ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP – must apply to UNC-W and possess an outstanding academic record (1300 SAT V&M scores plus 3.9 GPA); amount varies; (Novermber 15 through Feburary 15 deadline); (applications available on their web site at www.uncw.edu/finaid or by calling 910-962-3177; may also apply for Honors Scholarship Program at www.edu/honors and submit application).
APPALACHAIN STATE UNIVERSITY MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS – must complete ASUÕs online admissions application and scholarship information and have superior record or special talent accomplishments; amount – varies from $500 to $4500; November 15 deadline for admissions application to be received in their office (more information www.admissions.appstate.edu or www.firstconnections.appstate.edu or www.admissions.appstate.edu/scholarships/index.html); may also apply for Honor College at www.honors.appstate.edu.
NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY (NPD) – must be interested in attending a school or art or design that is a member of the NPD Association; student must present portfolio for review while speaking with the various art college representatives; November 18 will be NPD in Charlotte area. THE ART INSTITUTES VARIOUS SCHOLARSHIPS – must apply to attend one of The Arts Institute located throughout he U.S. and apply for scholarship relating to studentÕs career (culinary art; writing; fashion; art honor society; etc.) amount – varies; November 19 (see website for details, dates & application: www.artinstitutes.edu/financialaid_scholarships.asp.
TOYOTA COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP – must be planning to attend a four-year college, have an outstanding GPA, be an effective leader, and be involved in or have initiated a service program that has a positive impact on the school or community; amount – varies from $10,000 up to $20,000; must complete a preliminary application by November 26; schoolÕs scholarship committee will select one student to be schoolÕs nominee from submitted preliminary applications.
BREVARD COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP – must apply to Brevard College and have minimum 3.0 GPA; amount – varies from $500 to $8000 annually depending on type of scholarship received such as academic achievement, Eagle Scouts, Gold Award recipients and/or leadership; November 30 deadline.
CLEMSON UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP – must apply to Clemson University, be ranked in top 10% of class and have 1300+SAT score (or 30+ ACT score); amount – varies from $500 to full tuition & fees, with waiver of out-of-state tuition fees of approximately $7000 for additional savings per year, November 30 deadline to submit admission application.
NATIONAL SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS SCHOLARSHIP – must plan to study engineering in a college that is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Committee of the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology; amount – varies; November 30 deadline; applications available at www.nspe.org/scholarships/sc1.asp.
HAYWOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE PROGRESS ENERGY POWER CAREERS SCHOLARSHIP – must major in electrical or industrial systems at HCC (that is relevant to a career in power plant operations such as Electrical-Electronics, Industrial Systems or Electric Power Production Technology), have a 3.2 GPA (with a strong math and science background) and willing to work part-time in a co-op with the Progress Energy Company located in the Asheville area during school year and summers, plus work for Progress Energy if offered a job; amount – covers the cost of tuition at HCC for two years ($500 each semester); November 30 deadline or ASAP (for more details call the Progress Energy Corporate Recruiting Office at 919-546-7785 or see their web site at: www.progress-energy.com).
